BROOKHAVEN — A forecast for severe storms has returned for Friday. Last week, Lincoln County was under a tornado watch for much of the afternoon Friday but escaped unscathed.

National Weather Service in Jackson has issued another severe weather outlook for Mississippi and Southwest Mississippi is again at a marginal risk for severe weather. The storms could hit late Friday afternoon and into the night.

Lincoln County and the surrounding areas could see isolated severe storms, damaging wind gusts, quarter sized hail and a tornado can not be ruled out. One tornado touched down in Lincoln County this year. A EF1 tornado touched down in the Little Bahalia community destroying a trailer home and damaging another home and carport. No one was injured in that tornado.

Sine Jan. 1, Mississippi has seen 22 tornadoes, two of which were EF3s and one was an EF4. According to the National Weather Service, 21 people have been killed by tornadoes this year in Mississippi and those deaths occurred last Friday.

Strong winds are also forecast for Friday. Sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph are expected with gusts up to 25 to 30 mph which can cause weak trees and limbs to fall could pose a limited threat to the area. High profile vehicles might become unsteady in the gusts Friday.

Enough of the bad weather outlook. Thursday is forecast to be sunny and warm. Temperatures will hit a high of 77 with a low of 60 with an ESE wind blowing around 5-to-10 mph.
