BROOKHAVEN — New Sight Baptist Church Nativity Scene Coordinator Brenda Foster said church members will share Christmas Story again with a drive-through nativity.

It’s the 17th year the church has hosted the event.

She said it has become a family tradition for some in the community to drive through the story. It lasts about 20 minutes from start to finish. People can sit in their cars and drive through the nativity or they can walk if they prefer.

“God has truly blessed us with being able to tell the story to the world and the community,” Foster said. “There are 15 to 20 scenes. We will give people a happy treat at the end and we enjoy hearing them tell us their memories of the nativity. It is really neat.” 

She estimates 2,800 people came through the nativity last year. New Sight Baptist Church, located at 629 Forest Trail Northeast off of New Sight Road, began work on the nativity display in early October. 

The first day for the nativity will be this weekend December 10 to 11 from 6 to 9 p.m.  It will also be open December 16 to 18 from 6 to 9 p.m., weather permitting. The drive through nativity is their biggest event of the year, she said. 

“I know most people know the meaning of Christmas but some might not. They can see the beginning from the angels visiting Mary to the end,” Foster said. “Every spot you pass is a scene that depicts Jesus’s journey. We go around to the Lord’s Supper, the crosses and when He rose from the dead. It is all about who we should serve every day. I enjoy hearing the kids read the bible parents and some will ask their parents to read them. It is a blessing for sure.” 

There is no cost to go through the nativity.
