Hi, all. Just a thought to help start your weekend.

I want to tell you about another place my wife and I visited recently. We had traveled parts of Arizona, up into Utah, across to Colorado, and down toward New Mexico. Just before reaching that last state, we headed off the beaten path, followed the highway through barren landscape, up a hill, and stopped in a gravel parking lot on that very cold morning. We saw very few vehicles as we traveled that way, and we were greeted only by one Navajo woman at her post in the little “welcome” hut building as we paid our entrance fee.

We parked and made our way across the non-descript lot, past the plastic portable toilets and into a large open space resembling a big square. It was the same on all four sides. There were two or three booths where some of the Indian ladies peddled their beautiful homemade jewelry and other items. And there, in the center of that large square space, was the small frisbee-sized circle you see here in my picture. We were standing at the “Four Corners.”

Have you ever wanted to be in two places at once? Well we were in four! The spot where those four above mentioned states meet draws tourists onto Navajo Indian reservation lands so they can do exactly what we did — stand in four states at the same time. There was no fanfare. It was just us and another couple, and we took turns snapping our photos, purchasing our trinkets, and shaking in the cold wind before we headed back to our car and headed off down the empty road.

So many times in life we try to be in too many places at once. We are stressed and drawn (or perhaps dragged) in too many different directions at once, only to realize when we get there that we can only do so much. My two feet, size 10 though they be, could only afford me a few inches of space in each of those four states. The thrill was soon passed, and we left it all in the rear view mirror. We truly were in four states at once, but could do so very little in each one right then.

Do good. Be good. But instead of trying to be so many things to so many people in so many places, especially in the upcoming holiday season, how about letting the God Who can be everywhere take care of everything you can’t?! The great thing about that is that you won’t leave Him in the rear view mirror. He will be your traveling companion if you allow.
