The Will Rogers-to-Jonathan Mingo connection was one that scored a pile of touchdowns for Brandon High during their respective prep careers.
Monday, the duo was named as Co-Offensive Players of the Week by the Southeastern Conference (SEC) for their play on in a pair of big wins on Saturday.
Mingo had a record-breaking day in a 52-28 win over Vanderbilt in Nashville.
His 247 yards on nine receptions was the most receiving yards in a single game in Ole Miss history, breaking the mark set by Elijah Moore two years ago.
Mingo scored twice as No. 9 Ole Miss battled back from a halftime deficit to knock off Vandy.
In his weekly press conference, UM coach Lane Kiffin praised the work ethic of Mingo, a senior who started in all 12 games as a true freshman in 2019.
Brandon High went 13-2 as Mingo and his senior class had their season ended by Oak Grove in the 6A semifinals in 2018.
Rogers played one more season after Mingo left and stepped in to start as a true freshman at Mississippi State — the first frosh signal caller to do so under coach Mike Leach.
Saturday in a 40-17 win over Arkansas, Rogers forever etched his name in the SEC record books. He passed former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray for most career completions.
Murray held the previous mark with 921 completions in 52 career games. In 28 games, Rogers now sits at 946 career completions.
Against the Razorbacks, he threw for 395 yards and three scores on 31 completions.
Next up for the Bulldogs (5-1) is a trip on Saturday to take on the University of Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. in Lexington.
Ole Miss (6-0) will be at home on Saturday for a 11 a.m. kickoff against the Auburn Tigers.
