Copiah-Lincoln Community College is bringing one of its own back to Wesson to work on the women’s basketball staff.

Head coach Gwyn Young recently added Alexus Holt to his program as an assistant coach.

From 2016-2018, Holt was a starting guard for Young’s team on the court. The Epps, Louisiana native averaged 12.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game for Co-Lin during her career.

Holt was a prep standout while playing at tiny Epps High School, located an hour west of Vicksburg.

She took the Panthers to the LHSAA Class C semifinals as a junior and was the state champion in triple jump for four consecutive years while also being an all-state selection in hoops as a sophomore, junior and senior.

Co-Lin finished 17-9 last season and Holt will replace former assistant Arnissayur “Pooh” Robinson. Robinson, also a former CLCC starter, spent five years coaching at her alma mater before being hired as head girls’ basketball coach at Warren Central High School in April.

The Wolves finished a combined 44-10 during Holt’s two-year career as a player in Wesson.

From Co-Lin, Holt then moved on to play at Grambling State University where she had even more success on the court.

After initially signing with the University of Central Arkansas, Holt played three seasons at GSU thanks to an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19.

Her best season was the most recent 2021-2022 campaign that saw Holt earn a slew of honors including being named Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) All-Louisiana Second Team, First Team All-Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and picked for the SWAC All-Tournament Team.

Holt played in all 30 games for a GSU team that made the semifinals of the SWAC Tournament in Birmingham.

She rarely saw the bench as Holt averaged 36.6 minutes per game. She averaged 17.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game. In her final collegiate game, Holt scored 24 points, grabbed six rebounds and made five assists against Alabama State.

Currently pursuing a master’s degree in sports administration, Holt already holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Grambling State.

“We are really glad that Alexus is returning to Co-Lin,” said Young in a release from the school announcing the hiring. “She was a great player for us during her two years and then continued to show that during her time at Grambling. We are excited to welcome her back as a coach and I think she will excel in the position.”
