No fatal holiday highway wrecks in Southwest Mississippi

With a sigh of relief, Mississippi Highway Patrol Troopers in Troop M are marking a fatality-free holiday weekend.
“We appreciate the motorists that live in and travel through Troop M,” said Cpl. Craig James, “who wore their seat belts, obeyed the speed limits, and didn’t drive impaired.”
Troop M covers the nine-county area of Lincoln, Lawrence, Walthall, Pike, Franklin, Amite, Jefferson, Wilkinson and Adams.
Though two motorists were killed in fatal wrecks across the state in 2021 and also 2020, Troop M was fatality-free during those enforcement periods, as well. Trooper John Harris also was killed in a wreck in 2021 in Madison County. While conducting a traffic stop, Harris was struck by another vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.
A summary of citations and accidents statewide will be released by MHP later today.
