New positive test results for COVID-19 have dropped somewhat over the previous three days, according to numbers published by the state health department Monday, but Lincoln County’s numbers are not slacking.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 9,752 new results statewide for the period of Jan. 28-30, and 104 new related deaths.
Of the 104 newly reported fatalities, 33 occurred Jan. 5-30. The other 71 were identified from death certificate reports Jan. 1-23. Most of these occurred in the first half of the month, including one in Lincoln County, as well as one each in Amite, Copiah, Pike and Walthall counties.
To-date, MSDH has recorded 727,418 cases and 10,935 deaths from the coronavirus.
Lincoln County reported 158 new cases over the weekend, however, and the one new death from earlier in the month.
In one week, the county’s numbers climbed from 7,003 to 7,374 — an increase of 371 cases, or an average of 53 new positive test results each day.
