The 18th annual Holiday Food Pantry Drive raised $8,000 for area food pantries.
Donations to the drive co-sponsored by The Daily Leader and Bank of Brookhaven were made by individuals and groups — many anonymously — to help provide funds to the participating ministries. As a result, each of the four pantries received $2,000 — St. Francis of Assisi/St. Vincent de Paul, The Greater Hope Foundation, Bethel AME and Mt. Zion Food Pantry.
“We were in the pandemic a year ago and now we’re in it again,” said Bank of Brookhaven President Shannon Aker. “There are still needs. The needs don’t stop. We’re still seeing opportunities to help. It’s a good partnership, a good endeavor, and I appreciate all the people who give. Some are even giving before we announce we’ve started the effort.”
Many families in the Brookhaven area have food insecurities, and must rely up on sources like these pantries to keep their families fed. The pantries provide food products that can be prepared at home, at no cost to the recipients and in an environment where those in need can feel comfortable and unashamed.
