Chemical fire in Copiah County brings emergency crews from Lincoln County

Fire departments from Brookhaven and Lincoln County are en route to assist departments across Copiah County at Westlake Chemical plant near Gallman.
A fire that began at the plant Friday morning necessitated as many fire units as possible to respond.
As of 9:40 a.m., portions of Interstate 55 and Hwy. 51 were reported closed due to the fire and emergency response. Those areas are open and traffic is moving freely, according to MDOT personnel at 11 a.m.
On Monday, Sept. 27, six people were injured when an explosion occurred at the Westlake Chemical plant near Lake Charles, Louisiana. At this time, there is no word on injuries or extent of damage at Gallman.
