The number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise in Lincoln County and across the state.

As of July 6, Mississippi saw 957 new positive COVID-19 tests. There were 44 new COVID-19 related deaths; with one in Amite, Chickasaw, Clarke, Desoto, Greene, Jackson, Lee, Leflore, Madison, Marion, Oktibbeha, Stone, Tate, Union, Walthall and Webster counties.

There were two deaths in Grenada, Neshoba, Wayne and Winston counties. Monroe and Bolivar counties had three deaths each, and Pike county had four deaths.

There are 104 new outbreaks in long-term care facilities. These can be either residents or employees of these facilities, and one case counts as an outbreak.

For Lincoln County, the number of total cases stands at 484, which is an increase of 47 cases since Thursday. There have been 34 deaths, with eight deaths being added to the count since Thursday.

The number of outbreaks in long-term care facilities has yet to change and stands at 111 cases. There have been no additional deaths in area long-term care facilities.

There are 32,214 total cases across the state, with 1,158 deaths. The Department of Health presumes 22,167 residents have recovered from COVID-19.

Nearly 330,000 tests have been conducted, with 314,459 being for the coronavirus and 12,628 testing for COVID-19 antibodies.

COVID-19 is a new respiratory virus that causes flu-like illness ranging from mild to severe, with symptoms of fever, coughing, fatigue and difficulty breathing.

Like the flu, COVID-19 is thought to spread person-to-person by close contact (within 6 feet) and by coughing or sneezing. Other possible routes of transmission may include touching surfaces contaminated by the virus

King’s Daughters Medical Center has a COVID-19 testing center located behind the Emergency Room and will be open to the public 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m-2 p.m Saturday & Sunday.
