LS and WL knocked from playoffs by road losses

Both Loyd Star and West Lincoln saw their 2019-2020 boys’ basketball seasons come to an end Tuesday night with losses in the opening round of the MHSAA 2A state playoffs.
Loyd Star (13-16) and coach Seth Britt were defeated 80-56 by the Bay Springs Bulldogs (17-12). Bay Springs moves on to a Saturday night second round game with St. Patrick (21-8).
The West Lincoln Bears (14-13) were also in Jasper County Tuesday night as they faced the top seed from Region 5-2A — the Heidelberg Oilers (24-6).
The Oilers jumped out to a 22-10 first quarter lead and never looked back on their way to a 79-49 win.
In his final high school game, West Lincoln senior guard Karlton Byrd scored a team high 20 points. Junior guard Ty Brotherns added 12 points and senior guard Anthony “Peanut” Hughes scored seven points. Senior forward Keshon Byrd scored eight points and freshman Tristin Rollins rounded out the WL scoring with two points.
Heidelberg now moves on to face North Forrest (18-8) on Saturday.
