The Brookhaven Academy Cougars will play former district foe Amite School Center Friday night in Liberty.
The Cougars are coming off a thrilling 43-31 comeback win in their opener against Sylva-Bay Academy. BA will be heavy favorites against an ASC program that went 1-11 last year.
When the two teams met in 2018 coach Ron Rushing and his Cougars won 35-14. BA is now a member of the new 4A classification in the MAIS while ASC is 3A — the smallest division for teams not playing 8-man football.
Last week ASC was beaten 46-10 by Silliman Institute.
In the win over Sylva-Bay the Cougars got 229 yards passing from sophomore QB Tyler Fortenberry. Fortenberry also rushed for 90 yards and one score to lead the ground attack. Senior Nick Ogden ran the ball 14 times for 54 yards and two scores.
Trey Fortenberry was the leading tackler for BA as he forced a fumble and had two tackles for a loss while making nine overall stops. Tyler Fortenberry picked off a pass and returned it for a touchdown.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
