(AP) — A man beaten by a Mississippi police officer has settled his lawsuit against the city and the former officer for an undisclosed amount.
LaDarius Brown’s attorney announced the settlement Thursday at a news conference. Brown told news outlets he’s happy he can move on with his life.
Witness’ cellphone video shows a handcuffed Brown being kicked and punched by former Jackson police Officer Justin Roberts during a February 2017 arrest. It’s unclear why Brown was being arrested. He wasn’t convicted of any crime.
Roberts was fired after an internal investigation and later convicted of simple assault. He briefly worked for Jackson State University Campus Police and was fired when the school learned about the case.
