A fugitive accused of escaping the Amite County Jail Friday was captured hours later in the Tilton community of Lawrence County, authorities said.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office deputies, investigator Kyle Smith and deputy Stephen Creel along with Mississippi Department of Corrections and agents with the state Bureau of Alcoholic Beverage Control apprehended escaped fugitive Ryan Lewis about 3:30 p.m., said Sheriff Lessie Butler.
Lewis allegedly escaped the Amite County Jail and fled in a stolen Nissan Altima, which deputies recovered, he said.
