4 teams bag big wins on the basketball court

The Loyd Star Hornets won the Region 7-2A Tournament on Friday night with a 71-57 victory over West Lincoln. Loyd Star hosts St. Patrick Tuesday at 7 p.m. while West Lincoln hosts Richton. The Hornets are under the direction of first year head coach Seth Britt.
The Brookhaven Academy Cougars captured the MAIS AA South State Championship with a 68-27 win over Lamar Christian School. The Cougars play Tuesday at Benton Academy in the AA State Tournament against Greenville Christian at 7:45 p.m. It was the second straight south state title for Coach Josh Watts and his team.
The Brookhaven High Lady Panthers won the Region 6-5A Tournament on Friday night at Wingfield with a 42-32 win over Forest Hill. The Lady Panthers (26-1) have won 16 games in a row and will have an opening round bye in the MHSAA 5A state playoffs. Brookhaven will host a home playoff game Friday in Sinclair Gymnasium.
The West Lincoln Lady Bears captured their second straight Region 7-2A tournament title with a 67-44 win over Bogue Chitto on Friday. Second year head coach Brooks Smith and his team host Richton High Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Jack Case Gymnasium.
