Representatives of the Mississippi Economic Council will make a stop in Brookhaven Tuesday on its 20-city tour around the state and the public is invited to come give its two cents.

The tour is the MEC’s effort to bring together people who want to make the state a better place to live and do business, said Garrick Combs, executive director of the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce.

The lunch meeting, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mitchell’s Special Events & Catering, will connect business leaders, community advocates and elected officials at both the state and local level who want to offer feedback and insight on improving the state’s resources.

Combs encourages early arrival to the event.

“It’s usually standing room only,” he said.

The tour has been through Brookhaven several times in years past, but each meeting offers an opportunity for new ideas, he said.

“We would like to seek out information from our community leaders and our elected officials, our business leaders regarding our economic competiveness, the condition of our workforce and the input to strategies in order to improve our state, our community and our region from an economic standpoint,” he said.

The MEC Tour will focus on economic competiveness and job creation, workforce and educational achievement, business climate enhancement and workplace wellness.
