Lincoln County schools are having an old-fashioned singin’, and everyone is invited.

“Lincoln County Christmas 2018” will feature an hourlong lineup of Christmas music by students, parents and teachers from all four schools in the Lincoln County School District singing and playing instruments to perform more than a dozen Christmas classics, from longtime church house hymns to wartime holiday favorites.

Superintendent Mickey Myers said the idea for the show came from the big Christmas shows the Fellowship of Christian Athletes group at Bogue Chitto put together back in the 1980s, and he wanted to revive the tradition in order to give local students a chance to showcase their talents.

“We have some amazing talent in this district, and we wanted to bring back this community event so some of our vocalists and musicians could put those talents on display,” he said. “What better time than the festive Christmas season.”

“Lincoln County Christmas 2018” begins at 6:30 p.m. at Easthaven Baptist Church. Admission is free.

Bogue Chitto performers include teacher Nancy Butler performing “O’ Holy Night;” parent Joe Elliot performing “What God Wants for Christmas;” and students Kayden McKnight and Reagan Smith, performing a duet of  “Hallelujah.”

Enterprise students Kana Feltus and Juliana Freeman, along with Freeman’s mother, Amy Freeman, will perform “Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone);” student Kelsey Smith will perform “Born on Christmas Day;” and teacher Diana White will perform “Who Would Imagine a King?”

Loyd Star student Anna Katelyn Britt will perform “Amazing Grace;” parent Andi Cotten will perform “Silent Night;” counselor Denise Leggett will perform “Labor of Love;” and teacher Stacy Smith will perform “Mary, Did You Know?”

West Lincoln teacher Dedra Edwards will perform Bing Crosby’s 1943 hit “I’ll be Home for Christmas;” student Kaylynn Jarancik will perform one of Christian singer Lauren Daigle’s songs; and student Hannah Jarreau will perform “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

Area gospel singer Joe Young will be the event’s emcee and will perform “Please Come Home for Christmas.”

Myers said he’s hoping around 200 guests will show up to support the district’s performers, all of whom he said were eager to sign up for the show.

“I’m sure there will be a little anxiety, but these are some talented people and many have been on the stage before,” he said. “We hope people will come out and help us promote our students and enjoy our Christmas celebration.”
