Concert, pageant still set for weekend

The Lincoln Civic Center’s fall fair has been postponed; however, nothing has changed for music fans and beauty queens.
Director Quinn Jordan said organizers decided to push the dates back for the fair in anticipation of heavy rains from Tropical Storm Gordon this week. Gordon was expected to come ashore overnight in Hancock County as a Category 1 hurricane. Lincoln County was in the direct path of the storm and the National Weather Service is forecasting 3-6 inches of rainfall.
That would make for a muddy fair experience, he said.
So they changed the dates to Sept. 19-23.
The show must go on, said Brookhaven native Shane Prather, who is set to bring the island jam and rock ‘n’ roll to Lincoln County Friday night.
The Miss Fall Fest Beauty Pageant will also continue Saturday as planned. For more information, call Susan’s Shoppe at 601-833-9333.
Prather, a Brookhaven native, is traveling home from the Virgin Islands for the show.
The band will be onstage at the multipurpose building Friday. Band and fair T-shirts will be sold as well beginning at 5 p.m.
A band meet-and-greet is set for 5 to 6 p.m.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.
Concessions, including fair foods like cotton candy, will be sold.
Tickets for the concert are $15 and can be purchased in advance at Brookhaven Music and Sound, Providence Hills, Davis and Company Salon and Wand Seed Store or through www.shaneprather.com.
“Sure, we are disappointed that the fair will not be going on around us,” Prather said.
“What is boils down to is this, Shane Prather Band has not treated its fans to a full band performance in a few years and provided that there are not safety issues or inclement weather on that date, the fans who wanted to come see us will still come see us. We are still super excited to see the fans and give them the great show that they’ve been waiting on and expecting.”
When the fair arrives Sept. 19, it will bring with it the midway rides and food from Mitchell Bros. & Amusements.
From Sept. 19-23, there will be free parking and free admission. Mitchell Bros. will be manning the midway, games and food booths. The Doll’s House in Brookhaven will also be selling food.
Armband prices will be:
• $15 Sept. 19
• $20 Sept. 20
• $25 Sept. 21
• $25 Sept. 22 (Military discount of $15 from 1-5 p.m. only)
• $20 Sept. 23
