Primetime 23 is a list of the top players to watch ahead of the 2018 football season.

It’s his last chance to shine. Lawrence County senior Oliver Moreman is hoping to have a bigger and better season than last year, when he had 41 tackles for the Cougars.

The lineman has been working hard during the summer to improve himself as he prepares for his final season as a Cougar.

“I’ve worked hard at getting stronger and faster so I can be better at what I do,” he said.

Moreman’s goal for this season is simple — for the team to be as good as it can be. Looking at the schedule, Moreman pointed out the first game of the season as the one he’s most looking forward to.

“I’m looking forward to taking on North Pike because they are my biggest rival,” he said. The Cougars will face North Pike Aug. 16 in Summit.

His coach is, too.

“They have a really good quarterback and good receivers,” coach Jesse Anderson said of the Jaguars. “It’s going to be a tough first game — a tough task — but a good measure of our team.”

Moreman said he doesn’t fear any opponents on this year’s schedule, and is confident the Cougars will be successful.  Lawrence County had a rough year in 2017, going 3-8. But Moreman believes better times are ahead.

“I think we’ll be real good this year,” he said.

Anderson has great expectations for the senior.

“I think he’ll have a major impact this year,” he said. “He’s been a leader since day one of the summer weight program and hasn’t missed many days. Plus, he’s a good football player.”

After graduating from high school, Moreman hopes to continue to play the game he loves. He is undecided on what he’ll major in.
