West Lincoln played to a nothing-nothing tie in Friday night’s spring football jamboree against Loyd Star.

The Bears kept the Hornets on their toes as they were able to move the ball down the field  in their first series.

“All together, I thought everyone did good and played well,” West Lincoln coach BJ Smithhart said. “No one got hurt, which is good. That’s all you want to see when playing another team.”

On offense, the Bears went through the air and picked up decent yards as the pass connected with the wide receiver. Trying to catch the Hornets’ defense napping, West Lincoln went to the ground game, but Loyd Star held and forced the Bears into a third down on the first series of the game.

Going back to the air, West Lincoln was able to pick up a new set of downs. The Bears went back to the ground game and was able to get the ball down around the 10-yard line.

Loyd Star forced the Bears into a fourth down and intercepted a pass and brought the interception back to the 40-yard line.

On their first possession of the game, Loyd Star went to the passing game, but saw the pass fall incomplete. The Hornets got their running game started on their second down and picked up a new set of downs.

Loyd Star saw their offensive drive come to an end when West Lincoln recovered a fumble at the 32-yard line.

On their second offensive drive of the game, the Bears stayed with the running game and moved the ball to the Loyd Star 22-yard line. In an attempt to catch the Hornets off guard, West Lincoln put the ball up in the air, but the pass was incomplete.

On third down, the Bears went backwards, as Loyd Star brought the heat and was able to record a quarterback sack.

When the Hornets got the ball back, they moved it down the field on their running game. With time running out, Loyd Star was able to break away from Bears defenders and headed towards the end zone. The game ended with no score, however, as West Lincoln was able to catch up with the Hornets and drag the receiver down from behind at the 11-yard line.
