The Lincoln County Historical and Genealogical Society will host its annual Black History Month program Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Jimmy Furlow Senior Citizen Center.
Robin Tyler Faust is the featured speaker. Faust will talk about her family’s business, R.E. Tyler Funeral Home, and its contribution to Brookhaven and the African-American community for more than 58 years.
“We’re excited to have Mrs. Faust come and share her history with us this month,” said LCHGS president Cathy Bridge. “She has prepared a PowerPoint presentation and is bringing a hand-crafted baby casket that her great-grandfather made in the early 1900s.”
It’s an opportunity for the public to learn more about the area’s African-American community and a long-standing business in Brookhaven, Bridge explained.
The fourth-generation funeral director is a native of Brookhaven, a certified practitioner of funeral services and a licensed funeral director, embalmer and life insurance agent. She is an active member of several civic and business organizations and mother to two daughters.
The society’s meetings are always open and free to the public. Refreshments will be served afterward.
