A Monticello restaurant will be closed for repairs following a fire in the kitchen Monday.

Crews from the Monticello Fire Department were called to Los Parrilleros, at 1345 West Broad St., about 3:25 p.m., said Chief Lyle Berard.

He said witnesses described a loud explosion in the back of the restaurant and workers discovered a fire in the kitchen area. Diners and workers were evacuated as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

Berard said there was heavy smoke and fire damage to the building. He did not know how long the business may be closed.
