Lincoln County campus housing is up for bids

The Lincoln County School District has a pair of houses up for grabs.
Both are sitting on school campuses. Administrators would rather they weren’t.
The school board is accepting bids on a two-room house at the Bogue Chitto Attendance Center. It’s about 1,632 square feet and the house passed an asbestos inspection, however, the bidder will assume any and all environmental risks.
Bid documents can be picked up at the district office at 233 East Monticello St., or call 601-835-0011. Bids are set to opened at the district office Nov. 24 at 10 a.m.
Superintendent Mickey Myers is hoping they’ll have better luck with the Bogue Chitto house than they did for Enterprise. So far, they’ve had no takers for the house that was built in the 1950s.
“There used to be a teacher’s home on every campus,” Myers said. “They’d be used for the principal or the ag teacher. That was a popular thing in the ‘50s.”
The home in Enterprise is a three-bedroom with a bathroom, living room, dining room, kitchen and laundry room. It’s about 1,500 square feet.
“The house has asbestos siding,” Myers said. “If we could move it, it would be a win-win. It’s pretty much obsolete for what we need in the school district.”
Enterprise used the house for a life skills class, but it kept the special needs students isolated from other students on campus. Myers said the program was moved to a classroom at Loyd Star so the students would be able to interact with the student body.
The board took bids for it through August but had no bites. Someone called to inquire about it last week, Myers said, but didn’t get an offer.
