The Brookhaven Academy Cougars and Centreville Academy Tigers traded punches in the first half of a key district game.
The first touchdown of the game came in the second quarter from Centreville. The Tigers marched down the field 80 yards and scored a touchdown with 5:52 to go in the first half. They missed the extra point to take a 6-0 lead.
The next possession, Cade Brown made three key receptions for the Cougars, including a six-yard touchdown catch from Dawson Flowers. The Cougars drove the ball 65 yards down the field and took a 7-6 lead with 3:11 left in the first half.
Centreville successfully converted a two-point conversion attempt and took a 14-7 lead just before halftime.
Tate Felder caught a touchdown pass from Flowers with 9:05 left in the third quarter. The Cougars tacked on the extra point to tie the game at 14.
The Cougar defense fought hard to keep Centreville from scoring again, and pushed down the field repeatedly. But Centreville stopped BA’s momentum and kept adding the points.
A late touchdown in the fourth quarter for the Tigers made the score 51-35. One more run-in brought the final score to 57-35.
BA will take on Benton Academy at Benton Friday night.
