Wesson police Wednesday seized crystal methamphetamine, marijuana plants and more than $2,000 in cash from a man’s home near Wesson Attendance Center.
Israel Heath Newman, 40, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute by Wesson officers.
Police served Newman with a search warrant at his home at 1177 Grove St, which is less than half a mile from the school.
During the search, officers recovered 7.8 grams of crystal meth, marijuana packaged for sale and marijuana plants. They also seized $2,300 in U.S. currency.
“We’ve been working this investigation for quite some time,” said Police Chief Chad O’Quinn. “We’re the only agency involved in this investigation. I’m proud of our team for doing our part to make Wesson a safer place and getting drugs off of the streets.”
Newman could be facing additional charges. He is scheduled for an initial appearance today. O’Quinn expects the case to be presented to the grand jury.
