BA Lady Cougars pick up two wins Saturday

The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars softball team picked up two wins Saturday in a tournament hosted by Silliman Institute.
The Lady Cougars won the first game thanks to a no-hitter by Emily Claire Felder, tied 0-0 in the second game in a pitchers’ duel and won the last game 3-2 over the Silliman junior varsity team.
“It was great momentum to push into our first district game against Prentiss coming up,” Brookhaven Academy head coach Becky Flowers said.
Lady Cougars 5, Carroll Academy 0
The day of game started off with a brilliant pitching performance from Felder, who pitched all seven innings, giving up no hits, no runs, two walks and four strikeouts in four innings pitched.
Felder was dominant from start to finish and made the game easy to win for the Lady Cougars.
Brookhaven Academy got on the board first in the first inning on a wild pitch that scored K.K. Jordan from third to make it 1-0.
The Lady Cougars added on two more runs in the bottom of the second on two wild pitches that scored runners from third to make it 3-0 Lady Cougars.
In the bottom of the third inning, RBI singles from Madison Thompson and Julia Anna Bartram added on insurance runs to give the Lady Cougars the 5-0 win.
Bartram led the team at the play, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Lady Cougars 0, Silliman 0
It was a pitchers’ duel from start to finish between defending AAA state champions Silliman and the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars in the second game of the day.
Madi Smith got the start on the mound for the Lady Cougars and pitched all six innings, giving up no runs on three hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
Jordan and Abeni Fuller each had one hit on the day against Silliman, but that was all the damage that was done as pitching dominated the game.
Even with the game ending in a draw, the Lady Cougars showed a lot of fight competing against the defending AAA state champions.
Lady Cougars 3, Silliman JV 2
With the game tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, Jana Case came up big for the Lady Cougars and hit a walk-off RBI double to give Brookhaven Academy the 3-2 win.
With the two wins over the weekend, the Lady Cougars moved to 6-5-1 overall heading into district play.
Felder again got the start for the Lady Cougars and pitched all four innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits, four walks and striking out three batters.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the first inning, Smith knocked in a two-RBI double off the center field wall to give the Lady Cougars the 2-1 lead.
Silliman quickly tied the game in the top of the second on a bases loaded walk.
The game would go scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning, where Case came up big to end the tournament with a victory for Brookhaven Academy.
Next up for the Lady Cougars is a matchup tonight at home against Sylva Bay Academy. Junior varsity first pitch is set for 5 p.m. with varsity to follow at 6:30 p.m.
