The Brookhaven Academy Baseball Cougars were looking to extend their win streak to four games as they traveled to Liberty to take on the Amite School Center Rebels Thursday evening.
Steady pitching, solid defense and timely hitting were the elements that helped BA navigate their way to an 8-2 win.
“This was a total team win tonight,” BA head coach Tyler Parvin said. “We made plays in the field, hit the ball at key times and ran the bases well. I think every player in the line-up contributed with a key play.”
BA picked up four runs in the top half of the third inning, added one in the fifth and three more runs for security in the seventh to put some space between them and the Rebels.
O’Niell Burgos led the BA 11-hit attack with a double and two singles. Taylor Freeney had a double and a single and Brady Spring added two singles. Nick Ogden, Dillon Burt, Madison Smith and Justin Burt contributed support with one hit each.
Fisher Warren picked up the win on the mound for the Cougars, giving up just one hit and striking out six ASC batters in five complete innings of work. Jaden Clark stepped in and finished off the final two frames striking out three batters in relief.
“Fisher had a great outing on the mound for us tonight staying in the strike zone and keeping them off balance,” Parvin said. “Jaden (Clark) stepped in and did a job finishing it up.”
Brookhaven Academy will be participating in the Gulf Shores Baseball Classic Monday thru Wednesday during their spring break. The Cougars will face Athens High School in Alabama and Washington School on Monday, Jay High School of Oklahoma on Tuesday and Hazel Green High of Alabama on Wednesday.
