FRANKLINTON, La. (AP) — State police in Louisiana say a log truck driver from Mississippi was killed when he applied his brakes to avoid a collision and the load on his truck shifted, crashing into the cab.
The victim was identified as 30-year-old Christopher Rex Blansett of Sumrall.
A state police news release said Blansett was attempting to pass a Ford Explorer that had been travelling slowly, partially on the right shoulder, while eastbound on Louisiana Highway 10. Troopers said the Explorer abruptly turned left to enter a private drive. Blansett applied his brakes to avoid hitting the Explorer, causing the load shift.
State police said the Explorer driver, 36-year-old April Bertoniere of Bogalusa, provided a voluntary breath sample, which showed no alcohol present. The investigation was continuing Tuesday.
