Brookhaven police are investigating an incident that occurred Tuesday night that left a former Natchez alderman in critical condition in a Jackson hospital. 

When Bob Pollard’s family couldn’t reach the man by telephone, they sent his brother-in-law to check on him at his Chippewa Street home around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. A family member told police Wednesday that Pollard had been found injured and taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center by ambulance, Police Capt. Clint Earls said.

The family is concerned that Pollard could have been beaten based on his injuries, Earls said.

Pollard, 60, was airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson Tuesday night. Police were not made aware of a possible assault by the hospital at that time, Earls said. The family shared their concerns with police Wednesday morning.

Investigators photographed the interior and exterior of the home, and Earls said the preliminary investigation does not indicate a struggle took place at the residence.

However, the investigation will continue until police can rule out foul play, he said.

Pollard, a forester in Natchez, was elected to the Natchez Board of Aldermen as a Republican in 2004 and served two terms. He lost his bid for a third term in 2012.
