The Daily Leader’s first Texas A&M University Aggie has been promoted to news editor.

Alex Jacks, of Wesson, will move from her job as reporter, where she’s been for a year, to news editor.

Her new duties will include overseeing the editorial side of Brookhaven Magazine and the day-to-day layout of the newspaper, in addition to covering courts, crime, government, features and general assignments just as before. She’ll also be in charge of the Lifestyles section of the Sunday newspaper.

The 22-year-old graduated from Angleton High School, in Angleton, Texas, with honors in 2012. She is the daughter of Buster and Lynda Jacks, of Rosharon, Texas, and the granddaughter of Pete and Joyce Ware, of Slidell, Louisiana, Maurice Jacks, of Wesson, and the late J. Hugh Jacks.

She received a bachelor’s degree in agricultural communications and journalism from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, in 2015. She attended school on FFA leadership and livestock scholarships.

She served as the associate editor of Texas A&M’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences AgriLeader Magazine her senior year.

Jacks also completed multiple internships throughout her three-and-a-half-year college career. She worked as a public relations intern for The Cirlot Agency in Jackson, a publicity intern for the State Fair of Texas in Dallas, Texas, a communications intern for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in Houston, Texas, a public relations intern for Fleishman-Hilliard in Houston, Texas, and a graphic design intern for the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation.

Jacks hopes her new role will make a positive impact on the product the community receives every day.

“I am excited to fully take on my duties as the news editor for The Daily Leader,” she said. “I have a feeling that my promotion will allow me to better serve this community.”
