When Enterprise hosts the Amite County Trojans tonight for a region face-off, the Yellow Jackets hope it’s a solid end to a somewhat difficult season.

Enterprise has gone 3-6 this year, 0-4 in district games. Though Amite County has performed well in district (3-1), their overall season record of 4-5 is not much better than Enterprise’s.

At best, the Yellow Jackets will repeat their final record from the 2015 season, but head coach Brooks Burns knows that the final record is not all that matters.

Preseason, Burns noted, “Attitude and work ethic are important in continuing to improve. It depends on our kids if we will be successful.”

Having focused on simplicity over the course of the year, consistency and control have been the positive results.

“We’ve been trying to be sound in everything we do,” said Burns. “We keep it as simple as we can. We want our guys to have less to process so they can just play.”

“We want to be more physical, and sometimes we are,” he said. “Our strength right now is controlling the football — controlling the position.”

Quarterback Zach Hodges has proven himself a rushing and passing yards leader, but has also performed well as a leader in other ways, providing a good model for the team.

“He’s a great leader for the team,” said Burns. “He shows up to work every day with a great attitude. He does everything we ask him to do, and in the right way.”

Coming off a string of losses, the Yellow Jackets know they are out of the playoff picture, but Burns says his team is not giving up.

“They understand it’s a district game,” Burns said. “This is for family, at home, so they are going to play as well as they can, and do the best they can.”

Enterprise faces Amite County on home field at 7 p.m.
