Meet Kelly Porter, a veteran of the fire service. He started out as a volunteer firefighter 16 years ago, and he’s currently serving as constable of post 1, but he’s also been working with the Brookhaven Fire Department for the past 13 years, where he currently holds the rank of captain.

Porter said he was born and raised in the Brookhaven and Bogue Chitto communities. The best part of being a fire fighter, Porter said, is the people.

“When we get to help somebody, it just feels good,” he said. “It’s usually a bad situation when we’re there, but if we can help somebody or brighten up their day, it means a lot.”

Porter said he’s got a large family that has been a feature of Lincoln County from the beginning. When he’s not watching out for fires and other emergencies, Porter said his favorite pass-time is hunting and fishing with his three boys, and watching them play sports.
