Doris C. ‘Polly’ Kirby

Funeral services for Doris C. “Polly” Kirby were 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at Union Church Baptist Church in Union Church, with burial following in the Union Church Cemetery. Bro. Billy Joe Deer officiated the services.

Visitation was Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, from 3 p.m. until the time of service at Union Church Baptist Church. Franklin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Kirby Rushing; grandsons, Ray Thorpe, John Thorpe, James Rushing, Sam Rushing; and great grandson, Johnathan Thorpe.

Mrs. Kirby, 88, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016, at her residence with her loving family by her side. She was born on Sept. 14, 1928, in Union Chruch, to Bert and Esther Ferguson Cupit.

She was a member of the Union Church Presbyterian Church, and was a retired operator from AT&T/Bell South Telephone Company. She enjoyed oil painting, Facebook and spending time with her family. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, William R. Hayes Sr. and James Duncan; a special friend, Clyde Smith; two sisters; and nine brothers.

Survivors are her son, William R. Hayes and wife, Elsie, of Wesson; daughters, Esther Hayes Thorpe, of Lorman, and Paula Hayes Rushing and husband, Kirby, of Lorman; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
