Area softball teams find success on road

All of the area teams hit the road Thursday as slow-pitch softball season continues. It was a fruitful journey for them, as Brookhaven, Wesson and Bogue Chitto all came away with victories over their opponents. Here are recaps from that action.
Bogue Chitto 10, Warren Central 2
The Bobcats scored four runs in the third and sixth innings to dispatch Warren Central on the road. Stevie Montgomery was the winning pitcher and notched one strikeout with three walks. She also hit two singles.
Codi Legget led all Bobcat hitters with a grand slam and two singles. Reagan Kirkland, Baileigh Jackson, Julianna Frazier and Lineka Newson had two singles each.
Karly Leake, Cherie Savoie and Kayci Beth Wallace had singles.
“We hit the ball well all throughout the lineup,” head coach Scott Leggett said. “Some of our outs were will hit balls, and our defense stood strong once again.”
The Bobcats’ next game will be Tuesday against Lawrence County at 6 p.m.
Wesson wins doubleheader
over Florence
The Cobras posted two shutouts in their road doubleheader against the Eagles Tuesday to improve to 5-1 on the season. They took game 1 by a score of 10-0 and won game 2 12-0.
Seniors Harmoni Ashley and Sabria Green led the way with two singles and two homers and one double and one home run respectively. The Cobras’ third senior, Aurianna Vaughn, had two singles and one double for the day.
Junior Amber Brinson had a solid day at the plate as well. She hit five singles in the doubleheader. Freshman Anna Claire Crow finished with two singles and two doubles, while fellow underclassmen Shelbi Maxwell and Catherine Wilson had three and two singles respectively. Junior Brooke Jones hit two singles and a double, with junior Nikki Guess adding a single and a double. Riley Smith and Arie Douglas had a single apiece.
Brookhaven beats North Pike
The Panthers improved to 6-2 on the year after picking up a quality 6-1 win over North Pike. Tia Bussey, Kat Wallace, Cheyenne Motley, Jadeyn Fuller and Madison Thompson all hit singles in the game. Senior Jada Henderson led all Ole Brook hitters with two singles.
“Our defense was very good tonight,” Ole Brook head coach Mandy Vinson said. “North Pike is a good team and this is a good win for us.”
The Panthers face Wayne County in a double header Saturday.
