No roads closed at this time, but heavy rain expected and flash flooding possible

Lincoln County is under a flash flood watch through Saturday morning, according the National Weather Service. Between four and seven inches of rainfall is possible within that time, said NWS forecaster Latrice Maxie.
“You need to be vigilant about heavy rain if you live in an area you know is prone to flooding,” Maxie said. “You should have some kind of an action plan and be prepared to move to another location.”
That plan should not involve driving through flooded streets. Each year, more deaths occur due to flooding than from any other storm-related hazard. Most of those occur when a vehicle is driven into flood waters.
Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Clifford Galey said drivers should be aware of and avoid roads that are prone to flooding.
It only takes 6 inches of fast-moving water to knock over an adult, and only 12 inches to carry away a small car. It’s never safe to drive or walk into flood waters, the weather service says.
Caution is always important when driving in the rain, Galey said. He said he heard several traffic accidents on the radio scanner during the rain Thursday.
“When we get a heavy rain, it’s going to run across the road and people need to slow down,” Galey said.
Galey said to his knowledge there were no roads closed in Lincoln County, but that may change as the day progresses.
