Collegiate golfers named All-American scholars

Four Mississippi collegiate golfers were recognized as All-American scholars earlier this week.

Ole Miss men’s golfers Forrest Gamble, Noah West and Ben Wolcott, along with Southern Miss senior men’s golfer Ryan Argotsinger were named to the Division I Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar team by the Golf Coaches Association of America

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar honors an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years of collegiate golf, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.

Recipients must also be of a high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Gamble, the 2016 SEC Boyd McWhorter Male Scholar-Athlete of the year,  graduated with a degree in physics in May and will attend medical school at UAB this fall. He finished tied for 10th at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite this past spring and ended his senior season with a 74.42 stroke average.

West enters his senior season as a triple-major in managerial finance, real estate, and banking and finance. The Tupelo native finished in the top-20 four times during the 2015-16 season, earning his top finish at the Old Waverley Collegiate Championship with a tie for fourth place.

He finished his junior campaign with a 73.42 stroke average.

Wolcott begins his senior season with 13 career top-20 finishes. The Dickson, Tennessee, native finished in the top-10 twice in the 2015-16 season with a stroke average of 74.0. His best finish came at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate where he finished tied for third.

Argotsinger was one of three golfers to participate in all 11 tournaments and 31 rounds for the Golden Eagles this past season, averaging 75.52 strokes per round on the year.

He shot his lowest career round (67) at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate (9/14-15), while recording two top-20 finishes. Argotsinger tied for 15th at the Memphis Intercollegiate (9/21-22) and tied for 13th at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate.

He led the team with eight par rounds on the season. During his career, he has had one top-five finish, four top-ten finishes and nine top-20 finishes.
This marks the eighth time a Golden Eagle has won this award and Ryan is the fifth different Southern Miss men’s golfer to receive the honor.
