Q: What’s wrong with the bridge on Bogue Chitto Road? When will it be opened?
A: The bridge was closed June 28 for maintenance, according to District 3 Supervisor Nolan Williamson.
“It’s been built now for 10 to 12 years,” he said. “During the summer, the cement will expand, and it the winter it would shrink. The last two summers, it hasn’t expanded back.”
County engineer Ryan Holmes said workers poured new concrete on June 29. The work was started during the summer months so school bus drivers would not be delayed on their route. Holmes said it will take about two weeks for the concrete to set, but the exact date for the bridge’s reopening will depend on weather conditions.
In the meantime, Holmes urged drivers to stay off the bridge. There are barricades up, and detour signs point the way around the bridge. Holmes said drivers should be prepared for a delay in travel times.
