Wesson water tower to get a paint job

Following a successful low bid, Mississippi Rural Tank Service was awarded the bid to repaint a Wesson water tower.
“Along with the engineering fee, it comes up to $262,000,” Wesson Mayor Alton Shaw said Tuesday at a meeting of the Wesson Board of Aldermen. “We’ve got $250,000 through appropriations. We’re going to be reimbursed some from Co-Lin.”
Project Manager Josh Broome said the city received four bids for the tower.
“We had competitive bids,” he said. “The contractor that’s the apparent low-bidder has a very good reputation. I’ve worked with a lot of different tank contractors throughout the state, and I have to say if I had to pick just one, that would be the one I would pick.”
The tank will need to be drained before painting can be done.
“It will have what’s called a shroud system on it,” Broome said. “They’ll drain the entire tank, clean it out, and then they’re going to have some supports that are on the top with the curtain that basically they can raise and lower with a cable system to prevent blast debris and paint getting out into road.”
Shaw said Copiah-Lincoln Community College will paint the logo for the water tower.
The contract is for 90 consecutive days from the notice to proceed. The date to proceed has not yet been set.
Lagoon update
Repairs to Wesson’s sewage treatment facility are still pending, according to Public Works Director Mark Brown. The parts necessary to replace the broken clarifier have been ordered, and the town is currently waiting for their arrival.
“There’s about an eight to 10-week delay in getting it,” Brown said.
Brown said he is still gathering documentation for insurance, but Shaw said there is no reason to believe that repairs won’t be covered.
“Our insurance covers breakdowns,” Shaw said. “I can’t think of any reason it wouldn’t be (covered). From my understanding, it’s going to cover everything from part replacement, to labor to engineering.”
