Wolves pick up win over Hinds going into state tournament

WESSON – The Wolfpack netters grabbed a big 6-3 win over the Hinds Eagles that helped build momentum going into this week’s MACJC state tournament in Perkinston Monday. The win moves the Wolves to 10-2 on the season.

In doubles action, the Wolves took wins at both the No. 2 and No. 3 position. Mateusz Kimelski and Cory Alderman fell to Daniel Yepez and Matthew Burks 8-5 in No. 1. Hayes Thompson and Will Pennington defeated Chris Crapps and Landon Young 8-4 at No. 2. Braxton Hinton and Drake Nelson teamed up in their usual No. 3 and continued their undefeated season by defeating Ryan Wheeless and Trace Myres 8-3.

Co-Lin won four-of-six singles matches. At No. 1 Kimelski defeated Yepez 6-1, 6-2. Skylar Moody, who did not play doubles, suffered a loss to Crapps by a final score of 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2. Braxton Hinton played a solid at No. 3, defeating Matthew Burks, 6-3, 6-4. Hayes Thompson, the Wolves’ No. 4, earned an easy win over Young, 6-1, 6-2. Will Pennington posted the most divisive win for the Wolves with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Victor Villarreal at No. 5. Cory Alderman, No. 6 for Co-Lin lost in a heart breaking match to Wheeless, 6-4, 7-5.
