Meridian sweeps a doubleheader from Co-Lin

MERIDIAN – The Co-Lin Wolfpack dropped a doubleheader to Meridian Community College 12-2 and 11-1 Saturday. Meridian pitchers held the Wolfpack to only eight hits in the doubleheader and three runs.
Co-Lin (5-12) look to bounce back today as the team travels to Baton Rouge Community College for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
Meridian 12, Co-Lin 2 (5 innings)
Game one started as a pitching battle with neither team finding the plate through four and a half innings. In the bottom of the frame, Meridian’s Nate Romans started a huge half inning for the Eagles with a solo homerun to right field. Meridian poured in another four runs to take a 5-0 lead before the Wolves returned to the dugout.
In the sixth inning, Co-Lin’s Justin Oliver drew a walk later scored on a wild pitch to close the gap to 5-1. But the Eagles strung together another great inning in the bottom half of the sixth plating five more runs to take a 10-1 lead.
The Wolves scored their final run of the game in the seventh. Matthew Marodecai tripled to lead off the inning. Kody Smith singled to right to score Mordecai to cut the lead to 10-2.
The Eagles added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning ending the game with a 10-run rule.
At the plate for the Wolfpack, Mordecai tripled. Champ Davison doubled. Austin Irby, Smith (1 RBI) and J.T. Wright added a single apiece for the Wolves.
Leading Meridian’s 10-hit attack were Luke Craig (4 RBIs) and Nate Romans (2 RBIs) with a homerun and a single. Baylor Obert singled twice (1 RBI). J.D. Gann doubled. Adding support with a single apiece were Kyle Bayles (1 RBI), Easton Weeks (2 RBIs), and Blake Fields.
Jordan Antley suffered the loss giving up eight runs (2 earned) on seven hits, striking out two and walking one in 5.1 innings of work. Also seeing action on the mound were Ryan Cullop (2 earned runs, 3 hits, 1 walk, .2 innings) and Austin Odom (2 earned runs, 4 walks, 1 strikeout, 1.1 inning).
Austin Harrison picked up the win for Meridian. He pitched seven innings allowing two earned runs on four hits, struck out five and walked two in seven innings of work. Drew Smith pitched one inning allowing one hit and walking one.
Meridian 11, Co-Lin 1 (5 innings)
Meridian pitchers Ryan Lane and Colby Shaw combined for a three-hitter. Lane allowed one hit and struck out five in four innings of work. Shaw pitched the final inning giving up one earned run on two hits.
Offensively, Meridian jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. They added four runs in the in the second, one run in the fourth, and four runs in the fifth.
The Wolves plated a run in the top of the fifth. Jackson Twitty reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced to second on a wild pitch. J.D. Evans singled to advance Twitty to third. Twitty scored on a wild pitch. The game was called after the fifth inning with the 10-run rule.
Matthew Mordecai, Tyler McLeod, and Evens were the only Wolves to get a hit. Matt Berler led the Eagles with a double and two singles (1 RBI). Luke Craig (3 RBIs) and Kyle Bales (2 RBIs) added three singles apiece. Eason Weeks doubled for an RBI. Nate Romans hit his second homerun of the day. Baylor Obert added a pair of singles.
Starter Steven Ginn absorbed the loss for the Wolves giving up six runs (four earned) on seven hits, struck out two in 1.2 innings. Austin Douglas allowed five earned runs on seven hit, struck out one and walked three in three innings of work.
