Bears slip past Amite Co.; girls fall

LIBERTY – West Lincoln secured a split over Amite County Thursday night in Region 7-2A basketball action.
In the boys’ contest, the Bears (15-8, 5-3) knocked off the Trojans to claim a 45-41 district win.
In girls’ action, the Lady Trojans defeated the Lady Bears 42-32.
West Lincoln will be in action today as it visits rival Enterprise for four games. Junior varsity action begins at 4 and 5 p.m., followed by the varsity games at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
West Lincoln 45, Amite Co. 41
West Lincoln captured a 20-17 advantage at halftime, and the Bears won the scoring battle 25-24 over Amite County in the final two quarters.
“We had a poor night shooting the ball and it seems that we just went through the motions most the night,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “We were very fortunate to get the win.”
Keshaun London powered the Bears with a double-double performance of 24 points and 11 rebounds. Ronnie Edwards chipped in 10 points and had eight rebounds. Adam Martinez provided four points and grabbed six rebounds. Le’Darrius Jones scored three points. Jayden Rushing and Dominique Chism finished with two points each. Both Rushing and Chism helped on the boards with five rebounds each.
Darrion Robinson was the top scorer for the Trojans with 14 points.
Lady Trojans 42, Lady Bears 32
The Lady Bears (13-10, 4-4) and the Lady Trojans fought in a close contest as West Lincoln held a slim 15-13 led at halftime.
Amite County outscored the Lady Bears 29-17 in the final two quarters to collect the victory.
“You cannot win just scoring three points in the third quarter,” said Young. “We were not in the game all night. We were focused on other things besides basketball. I was very disappointed with our team effort tonight.”
Jana Case directed the Lady Bears with 11 points and four rebounds. Skylar Hall, Layton Sills, Demesha Deer provided six points each. Hanna Moak netted three points. Hall and Moak were the leaders on the boards for West Lincoln with five rebounds each. Deer also had four rebounds.
Deborey Wilson paced the Lady Trojans’ attack with 14 points. Destiny Williams contributed 12 points.
