MEADVILLE – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats wrapped up the first half of the basketball season with a 52-46 win over the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs Friday night.

In the boys’ contest, the Bulldogs knocked off the Bobcats 47-22.

Bogue Chitto will return to action in two weeks as it hosts Enterprise Jan. 5 starting with two junior varsity games at 4 and 5 p.m., followed by two varsity games at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

Franklin County will resume action Jan. 8 as the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs invade Bogue Chitto to battle the Bobcats for three games, starting at 5 p.m.

Lady Cats 52, Lady Bulldogs 46 

BC captured a slim 11-9 lead in the first, and exploded with a 27-17 run in the second to secure a 38-26 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Cats (11-3) withstood Franklin County’s 20-14 run to escape with a 52-46 win.

“The girls played really well in the second quarter, but in the other three quarters we did not have our heads in the game,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “Overall, we are glad to get the win before heading into our Christmas break, but when we return we need to get our act together for the rest of the season in 2016.”

Zariah Matthews powered the Lady Cats’ offense with 21 points, four rebounds and two assists. Shakirianna Jefferson chipped in with 13 points and was the leader on the boards with seven rebounds. Christian Black provided seven points and had four rebounds. Karlie Williams netted five points. Tanesha May had four points and five rebounds. Lineka Newson also had five rebounds. Perstashia Henderson added two points.

Jasmine Treadway was the top scorer for the Lady Bulldogs (2-10) with 21 points. Damesia Griffin contributed 10 points. Tradata Norman netted six points. Shemiah Amos scored four points. Autumn Covington had three points and Sierra Bethley added two points.

“Bogue Chitto’s hot shooting in the second quarter was the difference in the game,” said FCHS coach Ricky O’Quinn. “In the second half, our girls played a lot better, but we struggled to catch up. Overall, I was very proud of their effort, but we need to continue to get better.”

Franklin Co. 47, Bogue Chitto 22 

The Bobcats and Bulldogs battled in a low-scoring contest with Franklin County carrying a 20-13 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Bulldogs (6-6) outscored BC 27-9 to clinch the win.

“We played really well defensively, but we need to continue to work on our offense,” said O’Quinn.

Tony Gibbs directed the Bulldogs with 10 points. Jalon Dogan contributed eight points. Dalivan Hunt provided seven points. Kel Covington, Jerdice Collins and Ivan Hughes netted four points apiece. Ryan Johnson and Dominique White had three points each. Gerryon Bell and Cameron Young added two points each.

Tyler Brumfield led the Bobcats (1-13) in scoring with six points. Henry Thomas, Brandon Blackwell and Darius Porter scored four points apiece. Malik Richardson had two points. D.J. Nunnery and Jermaine Black added one point each.

“We had a very cold night shooting,” said BC coach Mark Pitts. “Defensively, we played really well and managed to stay in the game, but we struggled offensively. Overall, I was pleased with the guys’ effort, but we need to continue to get better.”

In junior varsity boys’ action,  Franklin County edged Bogue Chitto 37-32.

Mario Felton powered the Bulldogs with nine points. Deion Buckles had eight points and Kentrell Franklin had five points.

Josh Thomas directed the Bobcats with 10 points. Zach Upton and Damarcus Godbolt provided six points apiece.
