Funeral services for Elizabeth June “Betty” Young Owens were held Friday Nov. 20, 2015 at Strong Hope Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Stringer Family Funeral Services was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Owens, 86, of Wesson, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at her home in the Strong Hope community.
Mrs. Owens was a long-time member of the Strong Hope Community. She was a graduate of Georgetown High School and a business college of Jackson. Her working career of more than 40 years include a position of secretary at the former Potter Company of Wesson, co-owner/operator of Owens’ Service Center in the Strong Hope community and co-owner/operator of Owens’ Poultry Farm of Strong Hope – a grower for Sanderson Farms Inc.
Mrs. Owens was a devoted, tireless and dedicated church member of the Strong Hope Baptist Church throughout her adult life. She was also a faithful, active and award-winning member in the Copiah County Homemakers Club, where she served as an officer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Lee Owens; her parents, Roy M. and Elizabeth B. Young; brothers, Shelby M. Young and Leonard R. Young; sisters, Naomi P. Young and Joan Y. Dickerson.
Survivors are her sons, Robert V. Owens and wife, Pam and Barry L. Owens and wife, June, all of Wesson; grandchildren, Casey Owens and wife, Beth, of Byram, Lee Owens and wife, Ashley, of Wesson, Christie Ayers and husband, Brian, of Oak Grove, Louisiana and Matt Owens of Wesson; great-grandchildren, Dylan Owens, Campbell Owens, Cameron Ayers, Maggie Ayers and Samantha Ayers; brothers, Archie Young and wife, Carol, of Huntsville, Alabama and Bruce Young and wife, Gayle, of Georgetown; and sisters, Jean Thompson of Memphis, Tennessee and Ruth Scott of Brookhaven.
Memorials may be sent to the Cemetery Fund of the Strong Hope Baptist Church, 1144 King Road, Wesson, MS 39191.
