Recent heavy rainfall caused flash flooding in some areas but did not result in any significant damage. Gov. Phil Bryant ordered the statewide burn ban to be lifted.

Lincoln County Emergency Coordinator Clifford Galey said no significant damage was reported after heavy rains over the weekend and Monday.

According to the National Weather Service Monday evening, Brookhaven received between 6 and 8 inches of rain and parts of Lincoln County received up to 10 inches Monday afternoon. Some outlying areas had power outages.

Some street flooding was seen around Brookhaven; a portion of W. Congress Street was closed due to flooding Monday morning.

A portion of Bethel Road near the bridge over Parnell Creek was closed due to high water, blocking some residents’ access to schools.

The statewide burn ban was lifted Monday afternoon when Bryant signed a proclamation at the request of the Mississippi Forestry Commission. As always, residents should check www.mfc.ms.gov/burn-bans.php or verify with their local governments whether a ban is in place prior to engaging in outdoor burning.

The Forestry Commission’s website on Tuesday still included Lincoln County in its list of counties with burn bans. The ban is set to expire Nov. 2.
