Wesson (3-5, 0-2), coached by Ronald Greer, dropped a tough 7-0 decision Friday to the Port Gibson Blue Waves at Stone Stadium.
This week, the Cobras are looking to rebound quickly as they travel to Fayette to take on the Jefferson County Tigers in another big Region 7-3A test.
The Tigers (2-5, 1-1), coached by James Herrington, suffered their first district loss last week, falling to the Wilkinson County Wildcats 44-24.
James Claiborne directed the Tigers’ aerial attack by completing 9-of-15 passes for 160 yards. Jalen Herrington was the leader on the ground with 101 rushing yards on nine carries. Jaqurious Blake was the top receiver with five catches for 135 yards.
Keyshawn Nelson and Draylon McDonald led the Tigers’ defense with six tackles each.
Wesson’s top offensive performer last week against Port Gibson was Cornelius Barlow with eight carries for 82 yards. Barlow finished with 169 all-purpose yards.
Jamarcus Patterson had 15 carries for 55 yards. Peyton Burns was 1-for-3 in passing for 51 yards.
Defensively, Davion Frye and Demarcus Smith were the leaders with seven tackles each. Bobby Pritchard contributed five tackles and Trey Glasper had four tackles.
Last year, Wesson defeated Jefferson County 33-16 in Wesson
My prediction: In a close 7-3A battle, Jefferson County wins 24-20.
