Franklin County (4-4, 1-1), coached by Anthony Hart, took on the undefeated Hazlehurst Indians Friday and fell 24-7 in Meadville.
This week, the Bulldogs are celebrating homecoming as they welcome their new Region 7-3A opponent, the Port Gibson Blue Waves, to Bulldog Country.
The Blue Waves (1-6, 0-1), coached by Trevor Porter, slipped past Wesson Friday to claim their first district win over the Cobras 7-0 in Stone Stadium.
Jonte Dembe was the top rusher for the Blue Waves with four carries for 25 yards and one touchdown. Fabian Gilmore led all receivers with three catches for 46 yards.
FC’s top offensive player last week against Hazlehurst was quarterback Jacob McDaniel. He completed 4-of-14 passes for 76 yards and rushed for 61 yards on 13 carries.
Keonte Bee helped the Bulldogs’ rushing attack with 46 yards rushing on eight carries. Cortney Smith provided 10 rushes for 34 yards.
De’Martre Collins was the top receiver with two catches for 47 yards.
Defensively, Ryan Johnson powered the Bulldogs with 14 tackles. Kentrell Franklin contributed 11 stops. Chris O’Quinn provided 10 tackles. Dominique White and La’Darius Norman had eight tackles each. Gregory Queen, Cameron Young and Marquavis Dunn had seven stops each.
My prediction: The Bulldogs celebrate homecoming with a 42-30 win over Port Gibson.
