Brookhaven Academy (0-7, 0-3), under the direction of second-year coach Blake Purvis, dropped a 43-7 decision last week to the Parklane Academy Pioneers in McComb.
This week, the Cougars return home with high hopes of clinching their first win of the season when they host the Amite School Center Rebels.
The Rebels (3-4, 1-0), led by coach Mitch Mitchell, lost 16-14 last week to the Hillcrest Christian Cougars in Liberty.
BA’s top offensive performer last week against Parklane was junior quarterback Madison Smith with 172 yards passing on 18-of-33 attempts. Senior receiver Ross Felder caught nine of those passes for 132 yards.
Defensively, Felder also led the Cougars with eight tackles including one tackle for loss and recovered a fumble. Roger Rushing provided seven tackles and had one quarterback hurry. Carter Culbertson had seven tackles and Connor Griffin had six tackles including a pass break-up.
Last year, Brookhaven Academy defeated ASC 39-12 in Liberty.
My prediction: The Rebels will escape R.M. “Red” Stuard Field with a 24-14 win.
