Loyd Star (2-4), led by second-year head coach Adam Cook, suffered a tough 35-20 homecoming loss last week to the Stringer Red Devils.
This week, the Hornets are ready to begin their Region 7-2A race as they invade Liberty to take on the Amite County Trojans.
The Trojans (4-1), coached by Sedric Cain, tamed the Pisgah Dragons 28-17 last week in Sandhill.
Last week, Amite County was led by senior quarterback Quavonte Adams, completing 12-of-16 passes for 188 yards. Lantravious Franklin powered the ground attack with 19 carries for 100 yards. D’Kenyace Roberts was the top receiver with four catches for 111 yards.
Defensively, Kendrick Anderson and Marquaviuos Winfield led the Trojans with seven tackles each.
Loyd Star’s top offensive performer last week against Stringer was Parker Flowers with seven carries for 102 yards rushing. He also had 44 yards passing completing 4-of-14 attempts with two interceptions. Anfernee Claire contributed to the Hornets’ ground attack with 41 yards rushing on five carries. Michael Harvey had six rushes for 42 yards.
Laken Wallace was the top receiver with three catches for 23 yards.
Defensively, Flowers powered the Hornets with 22 tackles. Nicholas Smith contributed 10 stops. Michael Harvey provided 11 tackles.
Last year, Amite County edged Loyd Star 30-28
My prediction: In a tough defensive battle, the Trojans will squeeze out a narrow win 28-24.
