PEARL – The Brookhaven Lady Panthers traveled to Pearl and handed the Lady Pirates a 4-1 loss Thursday night in slowpitch division action.
“This win showed us what we need to work on for the next game,” said BHS coach Mandy Vinson. “We have got to start hitting consistently.”
Brookhaven 4, Pearl 1
Brookhaven’s first inning did not prove productive as the team was not able to score, even though they had one hit by Jada Henderson. In the second inning they were able to produce two runs in part due to a single by Haley Speaks, which was followed by a double by Tia Bussey. Bussey managed to stretch the double into a triple when the Pearl outfielder let the ball get by her. Bussey then scored on a sacrifice fly by Macy Ziskin.
Although the Lady Panthers had one hit in the fourth inning, a double by Henderson, and one hit in the fifth inning, a double by Ziskin, they would not score again until the sixth inning. The team was able to string four hits together to score two more runs.
Leadoff batter Katherine Shell started the inning with a double, and Kat Wallace hit a single that advanced Shell to third. Shell scored on a sacrifice fly by Henderson. Fallon Brooks hit a single that advanced Wallace to third and Cheyenne Motley’s single scored Wallace.
Four runs were all that Brookhaven was able to put on the board, but it was enough to take the win away from Pearl.
The Lady Pirates scored their only run at their first bat, when Pearl started with two singles. The first batter, Jade Lockley, was the only runner that scored.
The Lady Panthers recorded nine hits in the game with no errors.
Leading for BHS in hitting were Henderson with a double and a single; Shell, Bussey and Ziskin all had doubles. Hitting safely were Speaks, Wallace, Brooks and Motley.
