Brookhaven (0-3), coached by Tommy Clopton, suffered another disappointing loss last week to Lawrence County 55-33 at Monticello.
This week, the Panthers are hungry for a win as they prepare to host their long-time rivals, the McComb Tigers, for the 97th time. That stands as the longest Mississippi rivalry dating back to 1920s.
The Tigers (2-1), coached by Malcolm Jones, suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the Tylertown Chiefs 16-8 last week at home.
BHS’ top performer last week against Lawrence County was senior running back Thomas Poole with 19 rushes for 232 yards, Freshman quarterback Sevante Quinn completed 9-of-25 passes for 112 yards and was intercepted three times.
Defensively, the Panthers got a game effort from linebacker Wesley Calcote, with a total of 13 tackles. Deion Williams had seven tackles and Greg Watts had six stops.
Last year, Brookhaven traveled to McComb and beat the Tigers 34-27.
My pick: BHS will claim its first win 28-21.
